we saw A Scanner Darkly last night. big Dick fans, read the book probably 3 times, movie was excellent. I wasn't sure how you could make that any PKD book into a movie and keep the paranoia alive, but of course if anyone could, Linklater could.

heh

I really want to see it, but... is Keanu (shudder)... any more tolerable in animation?

I want to see it.

Movies based on P.K. Dick books have been so unpredictable in quality that it's hard to know if you are going to watch a good movie or a bad movie.

depressing, yes, but there was a lot of drug use and only the D was negative, and rightly so.

it is very depressing

How odd... Most PKD stories are so uplifting.

Agreed but the animation was really really fabuloso.

I wanted to write a positive review myself but my enjoyment was marred by the most fucked up sound system imaginable. Every five minutes, thirty-seconds straight of loud static would overlay the soundtrack, rendering the otherwise delightful paranoid ramblings of Robert Downey Jr. barely audible.

Initially we all assumed that it was part of the flick. Then we realized someone was trying to stop us from hearing the truth.

Now I'm just hoping the DVD won't be censored.
