you finished all four? I loved the first three. how can you be pissed? remember book 4 is only really half of book 4. it was too long to publish in one volume.
If you just finished the first book you ain't seen nothing yet in the dying department. Wait till you follow a character for 2000 pages only to have them whacked inside a paragraph.
well it's not so much that people die, as there's a big fakeout over the two kids for absolutely no reason that I could discern. and I totally almost cried before I realized it was a fakeout, but then I was like "UH WHAT? HUH?" because I could see no logic behind the decision.
I think Theon pretended to kill them to end resistance at Winterfell. If they believed their lords were dead, then there was less reason for them to fight back. Also, for pride I don't think he wanted to come back empty handed from the hunt.
[16:49] lauralbaby: so i think you would enjoy the george rr martin books a lot more than i do [16:49] anote2self: oh ya? [16:49] lauralbaby: he is too mean to his characters for me [16:50] anote2self: haha [16:50] lauralbaby: and most of the characters are jerks [16:50] lauralbaby: but he's mean to all of them [16:50] anote2self: sweet
Yeah. Unrelenting miseryitis. Character death fatigue. I understand, really. One shouldn't have to slog through 2-3 books of misery to finally see something good, or put up with WTF?!? plot devices ad nauseam.
When I tried to read the third book, I found I cared so little about most of the characters that I ended up skipping 50-100 pp. at a time. Then, I gave up.
It really doesn't help that the series is unfinished. There's v. little promise of payoff without that completion.
honestly the only reason I started the second book was because I figured I must have missed the bus. But no, that bus is one I was on, and full of assholes.
