"The probability of pregnancy is very love"

but it still only takes one.

Similarly, you could be struck by lighting. Except that's more likely.

In tennis, doesn't "love" mean zero?

So I guess as long as the guy doesn't have HIV, "pulling out" is an effective means of birth control!

even if he does, it's still effective for BC ;)

HIV is probably effective birth control on its own, in that HIV+ children born will probably die before breeding themselves. it's just...slow.

Not all children of HIV+ parents are HIV+. It is more like 1-2 in five I believe if the mother is HIV positive. In Cuba, only 12.1% of HIV+ mothers transmit it to their children.

I wonder if that's the kind of those "HAVE SEX GET PAID" studies you see the ads for.

I'd say it's not quite clinched. Sounds like the sample was small-ish and the presence of any motile sperm would be enough for me to scream for a condom at the very least.

See the really hardcore people will tell you life begins at fertilization. Fertilization, when the sperm fertilizes the egg. Which is usually a few moments after the man says 'Gee, honey, I was going to pull out but the phone rang and it startled me.' Fertilization.

But even after the egg is fertilized, it's still six or seven days before it reaches the uterus and pregnancy begins, and not every egg makes it that far. Eighty percent of a woman's fertilized eggs are rinsed and flushed out of her body once a month during those delightful few days she has.

George Carlin - Back In Town - Abortion (http://www.lyricskeeper.com/george_carlin-lyrics/219961-abortion_part_1-lyrics.htm)

I can't vouch for Carlin on all that, but it does make you think about it in a different perspective.

So this looks like one study that does look like a shady source. More research is needed. Image

What is up with you and friends with eccentric comment tag lines?

First, there was that guy who irritatingly started every comment with "Hi there!" (or something to that effect) regardless of how deep into a thread/conversation you were. Now, this [livejournal.com profile] realethicalslut character terminates not only comments but their own journal posts with [livejournal.com profile] realethicalslut as though it weren't obvious from a variety of indicators just who is writing.

Should I be developing my own catchphrase?

Knowing is half the battle.

I think we had this discussion the other day in Dave's journal.

i've heard this before, but with the caveat that if you have already ejaculated recently, there may some sperm still hanging out in the tube that gets washed out with the pre-ejaculate.

My experience and the experience of several of my friends has been that pulling out seems to, anecdotally at least, work better than condoms - in the sense that I don't know anyone who has gotten pregnant while using the withdrawal method but I have several friends who have gotten pregnant when the condom broke, fell off, got deposited inside the girl, etc...

Also, as I guy, I just want to say it's not that difficult to pull out. I think that over the past 20 years there has been, at most, three times when I was so excited I was not able to pull out, and almost all of those times were when I was much younger.

All in all, I think, pregnancy wise at least, pulling out is a better overall option than condoms.

STDs are a different matter - but if you are talking about sex with a long term partner, timing is the best thing.
