towards the end I was so pumped the fuck up that I had to strip to my t-shirt to cool off. and then I almost cried at Parliament blowing up, not because I was upset, more of a release kind of thing, but it didn't actually come. So I had to drink some cognac.
I was so excited today, I was driving around my city and saw a V for Vendetta poster, at first I thought it was graffitti but it was that ever loving V sign over the governments should be afraid of it's people(given I was driving around in a Police car, perhaps I shouldn't have been so excited, not proper is it for the rozzers to be supporting such things).
In a day and age where the governments of most western nations are taking the people for granted more and more each day, for our own good of course, the story has a lot to say. I don't condone violence or blowing stuff up, murder is murder, but I hope it sparks some debate on what we are losing to make us 'safe' from the terror of destroyers who in the long run are no match for our living societies.
People always forget that, our western culture is still currently a living society, we grow through challenge, not the challenge of war and climate but by challenging ourselves, our ideas and beliefs and from that challenge comes understanding, change, improvement and sometimes even redemption. It was challenging the status quo that led to the Magna Carta, the English Parlimentary Civil War, the Reformation, the Declaration of Independance, Abolishment of Slavery and of course the vote for women. Allowing power to go unchallenged led to DDT spraying of children, the rise of McCarthyism and the draft. I think the noises that are being made against the film has less to do with the fact that Parliment gets blown up and more to do with the challenging of the all seeing, all knowing power of the government. Remember remember the fifth of November Gunpowder, treason and plot. I see no reason why gunpowder, treason Should ever be forgot...
you just described my reaction too. i thought i was just anxious, but nope, shit up-blowing was in the blood. i never want to see movies again, but this one i'll see at least once more in the theater.
But it wasn't a good movie, was it? I have seen it too. All that stuff about revolutions and terrorism is always philosophically debatable, but I think the it lacked in the entertainment department. I didn't really dislike or like any of the characters.
...if you didn't like this movie maybe you're seeing movies for the wrong reasons. personally i choose to see movies that are mentally stimulating and have a visually stunning cast (goooo Natalie P). all and all i think this movie was worth waiting for and would love to go see it again...
p.s.---- to tell you how good this movie was. i went to it drunk as fuck and didn't make a scene and DIDN'T fall asleep. so yeah...
