I tend to agree more with Oprah's initial thoughts, which is the fact that it's the emotional concept that are relevent. I think it's ridiculous to think that ANY autobiography/memoire will be completely factual since the author has, of course, a notable bias towards how they spin the story. I mean, look at how skewed history books are, and they're not even addressing the author's lives.
There is a class action law suit being filed against Frey right now for the cost of the book as well as the value of the time spent reading the book.
Was it that bad? From everything I've read (which does not include the book) it seems like he just embellished the truth. I mean, there may be falsification in there (like his jail time) but it sounds like the concept would have stayed the same regardless.
Maybe they should just remarket it as Memoires of a Pathological Liar.
Well, check it out (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0104061jamesfrey1.html). It's definitely a fact that they told him his novel would only sell as a memoir.
