On the one occasion when I had an XP installation eat all kinds of ultra-weird shit, it *WAS* the memory. But no memory test would catch it. I took the machine back to the dealer, and for a test (he had a good guess it was the ram) he simply replaced the SIMM. Ran like a charm. THAT IS THE BEST TEST. If your ram is compatible with his, power down your machine, and move a simm. Then boot.
