she don't lie
Aug. 25th, 2004 08:53 amSo I'm reading this book (title not given so as not to attract THE ATTENTION OF DEA AGENTS) and it's totally interesting. It starts out with the plantations in Peru and Incas and Pizzarro and goes to Freud and then George Jung and the Medillan (sp) Cartel and shit, and the fucking barbarous shit that went down in the 80s in Colombia. It's like watching a Rodriguez film. I mean, you think those things are ultra-violent? It's nothing to the actual shit that went down from the drug lords and all that. Fucked up shit right there. Surprising I didn't dream about getting gunned down by drug lords, but then I'd really be turning into my mother. Anyway it's totally fascinating.
I got to the section on crack last night, which is amazing in the way the media just totally misled the public and changed people's opinions about DRUGS. And, in fact, made more people try crack. "It's very rude to try crack once and not get addicted." The author actually talked to the "inventor" of crack, well, more the guy who made it popular in L.A., and apparently his parents heard his interview tape and wanted to take him out to dinner. "Sorry guys, he's in jail for twenty more years."
(Of course the one bad thing about this book is that all the descriptions of dopamine re-uptake being inhibited really really really makes you want to go on the alpine lift.)
