preliminary findings indicate nothing
Dec. 19th, 2002 10:12 pmI did a lot of online research today about dopamine. It started with a link about Caffeine, and then Nicotine. Mainly I was trying to figure out why in the hell these drugs don't make me want them. I read about Ritalin and cocaine, and finally I thought I had it. My dopamine transporters aren't as strong as normal people's. Except reading the rest of the article, that wasn't it: "People with low levels of dopamine receptors are at risk for drug addiction." I mean I guess everyone is "at risk" but I dunno. Partly it's willpower, but like, I can smoke a cigarette once a month and never have a craving (except possibly while stressed, but I'll take any destressing mechanism I can get, and prefer sex).
So I still don't know. Although dopamine re-uptake inhibitors seem to react better with me than drugs that increase dopamine levels.
