yesterday's just a memory
Nov. 6th, 2002 05:41 pmGod, reading this article about the Mormons in Utah really takes me back. Not that I ever lived in Utah, but I was raised in a similar household and went to church every Sunday for over 16 years. It took quite a while to really throw off the shackles of religion, but by the end of my first semester of college, I was pretty much there. I'm not sure how much it still fucks with me today, except for perhaps my dislike of public nudity (my own, not others'). I pretty much tried "apostate" things not in the spirit of rebelliousness but in the spirit of, well, trying things. Some, you know, were good, and some, you know, weren't. Well, ok, most of the things that the Church is against are good, or at least fun, but I'm still not a big fan of promiscuity or tobacco. And putting aside ten percent of your own income isn't a bad idea, as long as it's for you yourself.
But sleeping in on Sundays, skin on TV, cursing, drinking, and sex outside of marriage are all very good things. And I've even come around to coffee, purely for recreation of course. (I didn't even drink cola till high school.) And let's not even start on abortion and women not getting married. Sometimes even thinking about these things makes me want to bomb Salt Lake City. So I think I'll stop for now.
