Nov. 4th, 2002 09:16 amWatched Trust and Men with Broomsfriday, in the opposite order. So MwB is a charming Canadian comedy (premise: canadians are funnier than americans) about, um, curling. Yeah. I don't quite get it either, but then I don't get most sports. At least this one puts every other american on my level (of not giving a damn about the sport but still caring about the movie).
Trust is a rather clever Hal Hartley film about two misfits who fall for each other. Sort of. There's lots going on, and Martin Donovan (whom I became familiar with first in The Opposite of Sex) is indeed amazing, "dryly sardonic and violent" or whatever. It felt like reality, but not in a scary way.
And then I saw Bowling with Columbine with
ziptie sunday. Well, I'm sure everyone's got an opinion on it, but I have two other things to say which I haven't read yet:
1) Seeing the footage of the planes crashing into the Towers still makes my skin crawl and want to cry.
2) However, seeing footage of the Columbine massacre had almost the opposite affect. I felt energized and aggressive. I have some issues with my high school experience, I guess. When they mentioned that Eric and Dylan were only a few weeks from graduation, I couldn't help thinking "Dude they so should have done it then instead."
