what she said
Aug. 18th, 2002 11:56 amSo I finally got off my ass and made you a mix CD, and while I was at it I made you that Smiths CD I promised that I would.
In general weddings bring out my inner cynic (who is even worse than my outer cynic), but then I usually know the bride and groom. I think it all goes back to my first real wedding being my older brother's, and even my parents were betting on divorce in a couple of years. (They've been together over seven and just had a kid.) And then having weddings in churches also makes me want to puke.
The first time I went to a wedding with a date, I was a little worried about it. Well, I didn't know how, but I thought that he would connect me with weddings or marriage or some such. But the ceremony filled me with such bile that it didn't happen at all. I don't believe in God or "true love", and I do believe that half of marriages end in divorce*. The only fear of going to weddings with dates is that they'd break up with me for being such a big jerk.
*Which is not to say I would completely rule out either one (marriage or wedding I mean). I used to just want to elope, and then I just didn't want to get married at all. But on the off chance I meet the right guy, and if I think we can build a future and grow together as people, I probably wouldn't say no. And I've heard enough cool ideas for weddings that I think I could go for it. As long as the DJ played NIN's "Closer" in the set.
