music reviews
Jul. 31st, 2002 11:41 amI downloaded a copy of the new Eminem album last night and started listening to it. Got about halfway through... I like it. It's obviously not as "slick," I mean the production, but it's not bad, and the lyrics of course are the strong suit anyway. He's returned to his old themes of "don't take this seriously, it's just a song," but also with a bit of "Dude, you only care what I say 'cos I'm a white boy" going in there. No ICP riffs yet, but he did make several references to the time he pulled a gun on Kim... He's mostly dropped the Slim Shady persona so the stuff isn't as exaggerated, but he's still one angry mofo.
I also actually ordered the BBC Sessions of the Cocteau Twins. It's two discs (half.com babee) and all the songs sort of sound alike, but I like that sound. I don't know if you've ever heard any of their stuff, but it's sort of ethereal and dreamy (like shoegaze without the heavy guitars i guess).
