lauralhI've been reading online journals for a pretty long time now, for about three years or so. Started with the now-defunct Pamie and so on and so forth till I discovered this site. My whole deal is, I suppose, that I love gossip and hearing about the exciting things and drama that go on in people's lives.
So when I read these journals, I read them partly as a writer and partly as a caring human. I'm always glad when people start dating new people, but at the same time it's so much more interesting to read about a break-up. And then when someone can't get over an ex, I'm like "This is beginning to get stale, we need some new themes here." As a human being I'll say something more like "Get over it dude," although a bit more compassionately.
I'm not really into "train wrecks" - people who just fuck up their lives and have no clue - but I do prefer reading people who don't quite have their heads on straight. Because most people aren't so great at writing that they can make a boring respectable life sound interesting. I know I can't.
