Feb. 25th, 2002 08:44 amIn high school my best friend and my boyfriend were in the school's Christian Youth Group. I went to their Bible meetings once or twice, but didn't really feel welcome. I don't know why, because I was reasonably good friends with everyone else in the group. I suppose it was the pseudo-religious atmosphere of "everyone's welcome." I can't really respect that. A real religion doesn't welcome all beliefs or creeds, dammit.
I was in some sort of college class, debating the roots of the patriarchy. My explanation was simple enough - when hunting became more fashionable than gathering, that was the beginning of the patriarchy. Unfortunately my class was filled with anti-Darwinists who in fact questioned the very idea of hunter-gatherers. Rather than withstand the ever-powerful and unquenchable flame of stupidity, I left in a huff.
But it made me wonder whatever happened to those guys from high school. I lost touch with just about all of them, except that my ex still emails me from time to time. When I got to college and began truly indulging in hedonism, I never felt like contacting them. By the middle of sophomore year I had probably alienated all of them. Oh well. I'm sure most of them are married and producing Good Christian Boys and Girls, anyway.
