I read Freud's Civilization and its Discontents, which is mainly only worthwhile for historical reasons, although I now want to read his treatise on religion. When I say historical reasons, I mean to see what someone thought was wrong with civilization and society back then. Not surprisingly, he found a lot of problems stemmed from sexual repression. But he also thought that most people's jobs/work came from this repression - redirected libido. I find this an odd concept, personally. Although it's probably true that there's a negative correlation between sexual satisfaction and job satisfaction.

It remains to be seen which police agencies -- now authorized to issue $100 tickets to scofflaw smokers -- will enforce the measure on the streets.
"I've heard everything from 'We may go out and do this if it fits into something that we're doing otherwise,' to 'We're not going to deal with it -- period,' " Valdez said.
Seattle police won't be writing any smoking tickets any time soon.
"The Seattle-King County department of public health will be taking the lead on education and enforcement," said Sean Whitcomb, a police spokesman. "The Seattle Police Department will be assisting them in this mission."
"At this point we will not be writing any citations," he said. Still, "we probably will be taking another look at it once it's been in place for a while."

"However, once the establishment has been given a permit for smoking in the outdoor area, employees will not be allowed in that area except for before the start of business and after closing. The outdoor area still qualifies as a workplace that is protected by the smoking ban. This means that the establishment will lose its liquor license for that portion of the premises because employees will not be allowed in the area. Customers will have to leave their drinks behind when going into the smoking area. Visible supervision of the area is not enough because employees must be able to enter the area if liquor is present."
