like most places, louisiana is two states
Jul. 23rd, 2009 04:38 pmSo Reg put on True Blood last night, as we hadn't yet watched it. We just watched the pilot, but I was bitching and moaning about everyone's SOUTHERN ACCENTS. It's supposed to be set in a Northern Louisiana town, but everything looks all Swampy, which is not exactly common EXCEPT IN SOUTHERN LOUISIANA. I actually co-wrote an essay with two other Cajuns in high school about the differences between the two, of which there are many. Northern Louisiana doesn't really feel like Louisiana at all, to someone from the bayou. It could just as well be set in northern Mississippi or Alabama. Because of the history of Louisiana, the northern part (as well as the eastern parts, aka The Florida Parishes) have very little continuity with the French and Spanish settlements, and were basically full of Scotch-Irish rednecks, Baptists and Methodists. Just like most of the South. So what is the point of setting your vampire drama there?
