for the 21st century
Nov. 19th, 2008 08:59 amQuantum of Solace finishes the update that Casino Royale begins. This Bond doesn't make puns to relieve tension, he kills people. This reboot is basically the coolest thing ever. I enjoyed the previous film a great deal, but this one is even more of a character study. The plot is an excuse to show that this guy actually gives a shit about people and country. He is mostly motivated by revenge, but that alone is amazingly different from any other Bond I can remember. Being so sore about his girlfriend committing suicide that he wants to take on the entire criminal organization that was running her? And, and, they tried to hurt M. That's reason enough for this Bond. This Bond has a place for women in his world that isn't just sexy way to waste time. Not that there are none of those girls, but not many.
This Bond bleeds when he gets punched in the face.

... seriously?
Also way too much snicker-snack camera-cut douchebaggery; if I can't even fucking tell who's hitting who YOU'RE OVERUSING THE CAMERA CUT AND IT IS NOT FUN TO WATCH.
Oh, and the same guy who KO'ed four heavily armed professional thugs WHILE HANDCUFFED in an elevator in about ten seconds, can't handle a scrawny little douchebag money-guy? (That INTERMINABLE final villain-fight in the crazy exploding Hydrogen Hotel.) GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK.
Nossir, didn't like it. The best thing about this one was that it still had Daniel Craig in it, and Daniel Craig still puts off the right vibe of cruelty and thinly-masked actually-giving-a-shit for a proper Bond.
