rwx and I made a bet today. He thinks that the Furry subculture will shed its "sub" culture and become mainstream within the next 5 years. By "mainstream", we've agreed that this means the emergence of Furry clubs, "beautiful people" attending Furry events, fashion designers appropriating Furry designs, Hot Topic selling cheap knockoffs, and pop performers/personalities wearing fursuits without irony. For example BDSM can be considered "mainstream" since MTV videos feature videos with BDSM influences, and Hot Topic sells collars, handcuffs, etc. Since "sexy cat" is already a standard woman's costume, "mainstream" Furry culture must significantly exceed this. If Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake sing a duet on broadcast TV wearing aardvark and otter suits, I have lost.
