Last night i finished The Demolished Man and started Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer's new novel. I don't know why Reg got that rather than Everything Is Illuminated, but anyway. It's about a kid whose dad dies in the WTC and how he finds a single key in a small envelope, and tries to find out what it's for. But it's kind of disturbing and I had really weird dreams about being manhunted in England. (There's also a nicely explicit section about the Dresden Bombing.)

Good? Bad? Indifferent?

I liked it a lot but there was one thing I didn't get, namely, what exactly made them decide to get Ben Reich after all? World Mover? The hell?

I read that recently as well. When I got to the... second to last chapter, I guess? Whichever one is all whacked out and hallucinating... I was all, oh no you di'n't, don't end the book like this. That whole aspect of the plot seems very jarring and seems out of place.

I liked The Stars My Destination about a million times better than The Demolished Man, though, I must say. And if you like the sf that references Blake, you might try the sf that references Keats (Hyperion).
