After sushi, I finished The Master and Margarita, which is an amazing book. I'm not really sure how to explain it... in 30s Moscow, the Devil and a few minions come by to fuck with people, and to help the Master, who wrote an unpublished novel about Pontius Pilate. Those three bits are three plots, really. The fucking with people, the Master and Margarita, and excerpts from his novel are all interspersed. It all takes place over three days - Easter weekend. On the surface level it's highly entertaining and amusing and sad, and underneath it's all deeply enriching and allegorical. And oh yeah, Stalinist purges. Whew. I may just have to read it again.
