I am proud to say we never had one single bit of "children's music," ever.

We did have lots of kid's dvds/videotapes/tv shows... but I liked those. Classic Sesame Street (nowadays all the kids are off the street and in preschool - kid you not) Pokemon, Transformers, old Disney (The Love Bug is still my favorite movie), teletubbies, Wishbone, Reading Rainbow...

Good Times.

I guess I won't read it then.

How old is your child? The whole "my life's been overtaken by toddlerhood" thing does, in fact, end.

Other parents then allow all their time to be taken over by scheduling too many lessons/sports and start driving around everywhere but our kids are clumsy and untalented so we pretty much got our lives back years ago except for the part where we have to feed and clothe them.

My second is expected this month -- we're re-enlisting! We're certainly hoping, even planning, on a miracle similar to the one you describe. Turn them out into the woods and let nature raise 'em. But even now life has been slowly reclaimed. In fact the process of learning how to do so is kind of what I wanted to accomplish by writing.

Children's television for me is a small-dose thing like the music... Sesame Street I used to like. But don't try to talk to me about that bastard Elmo. That's more or less going to be the gist of the post.

Elmo ruined everything, slowly but surely.

A lot of children's television used to be rather good, comparatively. The real thing about Sesame Street is that it used to be geared towards five or six year olds, and it used to be full of double entendres that kept the parents amused long enough to allow the kids to watch. Now it's aimed at 3-4 year olds, is seriously dumbed down, and is just, well, an example of how the world is, in fact, going to hell in a handbasket.
