unplug -- sometimes if it's plugged in, itunes won't read my ipod (althogh windows sees it as a USB HD just fine). restarting the services (by killing them and letting itunes restart them) is faster than rebooting...

right click my computer > manage > system tools > event viewer

any usb/firewire/disk controller errors in Event or Application logs?

Might have to re-flash the ipod software onto the device.

I had this issue all day yesterday. I was ready to murderdeathkill 'cause I wanted my tivoshows on my gd ipod.

Turns out that my laptop had been on too long, got too hot, and the USB was being a major asshole. I let it cool off and it worked fine again. Stupid.
