being a shut in

it seems Family Guy is cutting back on the fake-flashbacks and increasing the just-plain-gross factor. Which I tend to prefer. So that's good.

Reg got a few Season 8 Simpsons episodes, including the one with John Waters as a toy collector. Season 8 is about when I stopped scheduling my life around Simpsons, so I have only seen about the first half.

As the weather was absolutely horrible and Reg is kind of ill, I spent the weekend in a bit of a Buffy and Angel haze. I finished season 3 of the former and got to season 2 of the latter. I am marvelling anew at how goddamn good season 2 is. It was the season I started actually watching it (and Buffy with 5) and it was so much more compelling than anything I'd ever seen before. I'd say since, but I've seen season 4. Anyway watching it all at once, rather than one week at a time, feels far superior. You get to feel the descent into madness and all that. Funny how each season a main character "goes dark." Or at least, you know, beige.

As a shut in, I am compelled to comment

1) I haven't kept up with family guy as of late. When the jokes actually made sense in context with the story and the character's personalities (even if they were "random") it was quite funny. Seasons 1-3 are dear to me. I love me some random-for-random-sake humor, but the show has been putting me off lately and somehow I lost interest.

2) Season 8 is also where I stopped watching the simpsons, but I have yet to force myself to watch 10 seasons of simpsons, knowing I have a lot of mediocre episodes to work through.

3) Angel did indeed start getting really good in season 2. Season 1 was pretty good television, but it was more episodic and less epic. Seasons 2-4 of angel really did an amazing job of arc-storytelling (can't blame them for 5, they were told to stop with the arcs or lose the show, which they then cancelled anyways). The descent in to madness / darkness thing for all the characters was quite well-played, and I really can appreciate a show that can go dark without losing its heart.

I just started on Season 4 of Buffy, so I guess it's a good time to start watching Angel? The former is pretty lackluster so far - can't wait to get to Season 5, which I've heard is possibly the best.

I am pretty sold on Season 2 of Buffy personally. 3 is also good, but I don't think it gets good again. Except that I liked 6, apparently alone.

Season 1 of Angel isn't arc-y but it's worth it for the setup to 2.
