i hate to be the one to break it to you, oh, no, I don't.
So I need one mp3 player for WMA files and another for M4A files? God, I miss winamp.
We watched Van Helsing last night. I'd heard terrible, rotten things about it, which I think lowered my expectations sufficiently. On the other hand, I've sat stone cold sober through The League of Extraordinary Gentleman as well as Underworld. I mean, I hated them, but you know. The point being that, aside from a little problem in the area of being too fucking long, VH was a pretty damn fun horror/action flick. Oh, also, I still don't quite get the "origin" story, but whatever, I guess they had to touch on it instead of leaving it blank.

Suckers
As for Van Helsing, I had a similar experience. Indeed, I had a similar experience with League of Extrodinary Gentlemen (which reminds me, I need to watch Underworld). The one glaring difference being the weird religeous thing in Van Helsing. Don't get me wrong as a complete sucker for goth-shite I am willing to endure some churchy swagger. However, the zealotry in Van Helsing seemed to cross a line for me. It almost boarders on Moral Majority kind of stuff. It made me feel all icky. The Dracula guy sucked cornshucks.

I was desperately wanting Alan Cumming for the Dracula, but I guess they went with resemblence-to-bela-lugosi.

Yeah, the aesthetic proclivities that I have combined with my Irish-Catholic upbringing tend to make me ultra-sensitive to religious dogma. It's probably just me...but that doesn't mean that the zealotry isn't inherent in the film. It almost seems that in order to sell all of the violence to the big wigs the film makers had to promise that the religeous angle would be played up. The logic being that if the violence is righteous then conservative audiences will be less likely to be outraged. This is where the creepinss comes in. If one considers the belief system of the current administration and the effect that it has had on the landscape of the country (or the world for that matter) then the production of cultural artifacts like VH becomes disturbing to me. The film becomes a breif and dim reflection of our own national belief system. Religious zealots with an unclear past storming into a foriegn land to spread justice with righteous violence. Or something...

I actually had fun with Underworld although it was a total goth masterbation flick and that made me giggle. Oh, angst!
