pop culture quiz part two

This is the film one. (I left out the Almadovar question because I know none of you read subtitles anyway. But you'll get bonus points if you comment about it.)

Please pick the answer that you identify with most strongly.

[Poll #97380]

I haven't been reading your journal for very long, so I have no idea what the Almodovar question is, but have at me. Pedro Almodovar is my god. Well, not my god, but I follow his movies like a rabid Cookiemonster would follow a jogging Oreo. Which is to say, he's brilliant, in my book. But I'm rambling, so really I'll stop and wait for you to let me know the question before I continue making an ass of myself.

I have not seen any of Almadovar's films. This is not because I don't read subtitles, because I do read 'em. I just haven't taken the time to go out and rent much Spanish cinema, though I've seen a fair number of Jeunet's films (the four more recent ones, at least), Queen Margot, Ridicule, Before the Rain, and The Dreamlife of Angels.

Sadly, I've only seen two of Soderbergh's films (but I've seen a couple of Hal Hartley's) -- sex lies and videotape (one of my faves) and Eric Brockovich (which I enjoyed), but that's hardly enough to develop an opinion of a director.

And no David Lynch? David Cronenberg? Damn. It's the end of the day. My brain is sagging.

oh, i just meant a poll question about him. But YAY for almodovar. I haven't seen the latest one yet because, well, I suck, but apart from that I've seen all of his films except, um, Keyko? or whatever it was called. My best friend and I in college dubbed every one of his movies onto SLP tapes, three per tape, using the library A/V equipment, that's how I caught up. (Before that we had a film series on Tuesdays showing his movies for half a term. ATAME was the first film of his I ever saw, it still kills me.)

I've only seen two of Cronenberg's films, wasn't really impressed. And while I have respect for Lynch I do think he's a little overrated. I'm not one of those Twin Peaks people, I just really like the Lost Highway soundtrack and Mullholland Drive.

I should have put a Wes Anderson question, but he hasn't done enough films.

With Cronenberg, it really depends on which films you see first. He can be rather out there.

And as for Lynch, I haven't seen Mullholland Drive because I've been a recluse (barring LOTR) for too long. I've also missed The Straight Story. And I am undoubtably "one of those Twin Peaks people" ;P

Oh... Peter Jackson. And I don't just mean LOTR... Meet the Feebles, Heavenly Creatures, Dead Alive, and The Frighteners... But, again, I'm a fan.

So many directors, so many styles, plots, themes, approaches, and audiences. I'll never see half of what's worth watching out there...

not a twin peaks person? please explain. you mean you haven't watched it, or you've seen it and didn't enjoy it?

hi

I have no right saying this: it's spelled Soderbergh. And, I have a weird attraction to The Limey.

Rocky Horror: I've seen it more than once, but I fall asleep by the first hour. I'm sorry; I just don't get it.

Hugh Grant: main reason I like Two Weeks Notice and that movie with Julia Roberts.

By the way, I hope you don't mind me adding you to my list.

I mean that I'm not one of those people who've seen every single episode and think it's TEH BEST SHOW EVAH.

Hugh Grant is 90% less annoying with a haircut. Yay for nonfloppy haired Hugh.

Was introduced to Almodovar in high school Spanish class with Mujeres al Borde. Yummy. From then on needed my gazpacho to be chunky style.
