Dammit.

Saw Chicago the other night. It was no Moulin Rouge, but I liked it. (MR had the over-the-top shit, and the lead dying at the end, which appealed to my inner cynic. This just had a better plot (in that cynicism department), and slightly better music. It reminded me a bit of Caberet (which is still better). The ending redeemed it for me, really.

I'm not really a big Richard Gere fan - actually I hate him - but at least he was playing a smarmy bastard. And Catherine Zeta-Jones was great as the bitchy Velma Kelly. It was the role she was born for, I think. (She was terrible in America's Sweethearts where she basically plays a parody of that kind of actress. She's just not a comedic actress in the least, just a bitch.) And of course I love Bridget Jones Rene Zellweger so much I can almost forgive her for Jerry McGuire.

I actually enjoyed Moulin Rouge without any irony. I think because it was just so over-the-top, and also because I was high on ephedra in the theater.
