Police post fake CL ads and embarrass people. OH NOT QUITE:

As of Wednesday night, police had arrested 94 men and 14 women andseized $14,500 in cash. One of the women arrested in the operation wasa juvenile who police said was being forced into prostitution. SaidSano: "We're going to pursue that."

they stung the hell out of folks by using the Weekly, CL and the Stranger. They sent in a black cop dressed kinda ruggish-thuggish, bought a large ad and waited. They had a condo rented for "incalls".
It is bad news for the guy who does that section, he makes commission off the ads and it is a large chunk of our department's revenue every week. It's better news than two weeks ago when the police had a nation-wide sting of criminals JUST before the elections though.

I just can't believe that people get upset about [livejournal.com profile] rfjason's shit and not this.

the only difference is that these are cops, and they're not posting to the world the identities of the guys they stung.

Bobby (the adult guy) has already had four calls from people wondering about ad rates, can they place ads over the phone/email etc.

To place an adult ad you have to come in person, bring the model shown and provide ID that all parties are 18+. They are some very amusing folks, the Escort industry...

the rfjason thing pissed me off because while his victims were a bit foolish, he was just doing it to be a total asshole.

and while its pretty much bullshit that cops are wasting their time with this, and even more bullshit that its illegal in the first place, i think people aren't as upset because its really not that *surprising*

no kidding; desperate guys thinking with their dicks get tricked by cops? BREAKING NEWS

Hi there!

I can't describe how opposed to this I am. Do cops hang around public parking lots going: "Hey dude, this guy left the top down on his Porche with the keys in the ignition. Wanna take it for a joyride?", or: "Hey man, I know the light's red, but you wanna cross the street anyway? It's only jaywalking ..."?

If you're worried about juveniles being forced into prostitution, then legalize it.

[identity profile] herbaliser.livejournal.com 2006-11-16 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
agreed, indeed. It really makes me furious.

You've just got to wonder what makes a person join vice. Are they fundamentalists, or just the name-takers from grade school?

[identity profile] herbaliser.livejournal.com 2006-11-16 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno, did you read about the cops spending $10K on lapdance busts?

[identity profile] kraex.livejournal.com 2006-11-16 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I need to get a budget number for lapdances, clearly.

[identity profile] verybadlady.livejournal.com 2006-11-16 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
man they are total [livejournal.com profile] rfjason copycats.

[identity profile] mercyorbemoaned.livejournal.com 2006-11-20 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
It's because people took the rfjason thing personally and imagined their hobbitporn on a bllboard somewhere with their names and faces attached, but effectively none of those people use or are prostitutes. You know, tragedy is when I cut my finger, comedy is when you fall in an open sewer and die? An important violation of MY RIGHTS OMG is a potential violation of my ability to act as I like; an unimportant violation is one that I can't imagine applying to me.

oh right there actually is a difference between trolling craigslist for a hookup vs. paid sex... i keep forgetting.

still, i bet none of the "johns" sent dick pics.

[identity profile] mercyorbemoaned.livejournal.com 2006-11-20 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I think the offense of the CL people was greater - as Jette pointed out, if they believed in the story, they were taking advantage of a woman who was obviously insane. People who are willing to pay for sex are at least honest. I was just talking about why people got their panties in a bunch over something they could see themselves doing.

[identity profile] herbaliser.livejournal.com 2006-11-20 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, I agree, I was just saying "to other people paying for sex is worse."
