Many antibiotics reduce the effectiveness of hormonal birth control.

Use a backup method.

edit: A great backup method

Cite your source. It's my understanding, via our docs and ARNPs, that most common antibiotics don't reduce the efficacy of hormonal BC. However, some anti-seizure meds and many anti-virals more commonly used for hugely immunosuppressed (read: HIV+) people will make BC not work.

My doctors/dentists have ALWAYS asked if I was on oral contraceptives when I was being prescribed antibiotics.
