meandering thoughts

The Dutch go EVERYWHERE on bike. I've started riding behind Ana's, that is on the luggage rack. I've only fallen on the wheel once, but now I have a huge bruise line on my ass to my leg, and it makes it painful to sit anywhere including the toilet.

Ana said I should have asked for a job in that hostel. I feel like a dumbass for not remembering to do so before I left.

IKEA is about a mile from here, and Ana got approval for her purchase from her employers. And so we went last night, shopped, and had meatballs. Today I didn't go out, first waiting for the delivery then reading, till coming to the library.

I finished The Dragons of Eden (on the plane) and Motherless Brooklyn. Out of guilt for not bringing other books, I'm letting Ana keep them here till she comes back early next year. And I'm really really getting into The Blind Watchmaker, it's even better than I thought it would be. I find myself puzzling over the 16th/17th century paintings of dark-haired/eyed Dutch people and then looking at the sea of fair Delft inhabitants. Except for the obvious candidates (asians, africans, semites), I'm the only person with brown eyes.

I'm in the minority with my preference for brown eyes, I suppose. I think people with colored eyes seem less honest or trustworthy, and therefore not usually as attractive. Except for green eyes, which look like the sea and are also worthy of being stared at all day. But on the whole I like brown eyes on my boys, and according to Dawkins and others that preference is going to be weeded out one day.
