it would make a horrible movie

Reading The Historian made me want to go back to Eastern Europe. And not just to kill Dracula, either.

The plot is mainly just a backdrop for the travelling around, which is fine by me, as I love travelogues, but I also love vampires, so it's a total win-win situation. France, Vienna, Romania, Bulgaria, Oxford, and Istanbul are described so intimately that you'd swear you could put the book down and go to a cafe across the way. But the little slice of paranoia from the vampires watching you is also perfect. The generalized "no matter what you do, your enemy can kill you anytime he wants" plot is probably my favorite, especially with the "young people, hormones, danger" bits thrown in. I think we'll buy it when the paperback comes out.
